I estimate Beaufort County residents will save as much as 5 million dollars in flood insurance premiums each year when the new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) are approved by the Beaufort County Commissioners.

The entire basis for the proposed rate increase is based on flawed data and analysis. First, the increase cites the increased cost of replacing property due to the increased risk of wind and flood damage in coastal NC due to hurricanes.
